چکیده

A large number of data mining techniques and tools are available for extracting trends, characteristics or rules from data. A selection of those relevant to hydrology are covered in this paper. Clustering, classification, association rule extraction and dominant mode analysis and the ways in which each family of techniques could be used in a hydrological modelling context are considered. In addition to demonstrating the relevance of data mining techniques to the science of hydrological modelling, two specific applications will be discussed. They illustrate the possibilities for improving existing modelling techniques by integrating a data mining approach.

Acid Mine drAinAge (AMd) MAnAgeMent

AMd is recognized as one of the most serious environmental problem in the mining industry. the problem of acid mine drainage (AMd) has been present since mining activity began thousands of years ago. Mining activity has disrupted the hydrology of mining areas so badly that it is extremely difficult to predict where water would eventually re-emerge. its causes, treatment have become the focus of...

Land Cover Change Detection using Data Mining Techniques

The study of land cover change is an important problem in the Earth science domain because of its impacts on local climate, radiation balance, biogeochemistry, hydrology, and the diversity and abundance of terrestrial species. Data mining and knowledge discovery techniques can aid this effort by efficiently discovering patterns that capture complex interactions between ocean temperature, air pr...

Mountaintop Removal Mining and Catchment Hydrology

Mountaintop mining and valley fill (MTM/VF) coal extraction, practiced in the Central Appalachian region, represents a dramatic landscape-scale disturbance. MTM operations remove as much as 300 m of rock, soil, and vegetation from ridge tops to access deep coal seams and much of this material is placed in adjacent headwater streams altering landcover, drainage network, and topography. In spite ...

Pit lakes as an end use of mining: A review

Theoretical review of ‘mining pit lakes’ indicates that like natural lakes such lakes display a huge diversity. They are typically in a non-equilibrium state with respect to their surroundings. Hence, at the decommissioning phase of mining operation a detailed technical study are required on different aspects of such created water bodies considering its morphometry, geology, hydrology, water qu...
